The Boarshurst Silver Band participated in the North West Regional Championship in Blackpool this weekend – only this time they were tested in the 2nd Section for the first time.
Playing Phillip Harper’s Mermaid of Zennor the band were drawn 4th to battle against some stalwart 2nd section bands. And boy did they deliver!
Remembering the previous years performance on the very same stage, they stuck to their guns and did as was asked by their MD, James Garlick. He had specifically asked them to play to the dynamic that they know they should and to not feel intimidated by the room. Very quickly, the likes of 4barsrest and The British Bandsmen were tweeting their positive comments about the performance placing the band as the “ones to beat”.
As it was, Boarshurst came a very respectable 3rd, securing their chance to perform at the National Finals in Cheltenham for the 2nd year on the run!!
As you can imagine, there were celebrations aplenty.
The band are now looking forward to an upcoming trip to Holland where they will be performing with Fellison Brass amongst others. Then, its heads down to plan, fundraise and of course practice for Cheltenham.
If anyone would like to donate to the band during their fundraising efforts please contact the band secretary, Janet Payne. Details can be found on the contacts page.
