Last weekend the band travelled to Cheltenham to compete in the Brass Band Championships.
Arriving late Friday night, the band checked into their hotel and caught up on some much needed sleep in readiness for the contest on Saturday. After qualifying at the Areas – the band’s first regional qualifiers since joining the 2nd Section, hopes were high.
The band pulled it out of the hat on the day, with remarks from the adjudicators indicating that MD, James Garlick, had made some great decisions when shaping the piece (Images for Brass.) Special mentions were made to the soloistic lines performed by top man, Neil Booth, and Solo Euphonium Richard Wooding.
So job done and merriment being made, the band waited patiently for the result. And what a result – Boarshurst came 3rd in the field, setting their stall out for future band contests and giving them another year in the 2nd Section during which they can progress and grow.
